Daniel Day-Lewis has admitted he’s unimpressed at the direction that supposed Method acting has taken in recent history.
The three-time Oscar winner is known for throwing himself into his roles, which has reportedly included spending three days in solitary confinement for In The Name Of The Father, living in the wilderness for a month ahead of his appearance in The Last Of The Mohicans and training extensively in boxing and sewing for The Boxer and Phantom Thread.
As part of a new interview with the New York Times, the British actor admitted: “I don’t really like thinking of acting in terms of craft at all.”
“Of course, there are techniques you can learn,” he continued, pointing out that Method acting has “become an easy target these days”.
