Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gestures as he speaks during a campaign rally at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 5, 2024.

US President Donald Trump continues to remain vague on rumours he’ll seek a third term, even after his team has begun selling merchandise implying otherwise.

Speaking to The Atlantic in an interview published on Monday, Trump acknowledged that the prospect of him seeking the presidency in 2028 would be challenging, but stopped short of ruling out the idea completely despite it being unconstitutional.

“That would be a big shattering, wouldn’t it?” he told the outlet, laughing. “Well, maybe I’m just trying to shatter.”

After noting some of his supporters have urged him to run for a third term during his public appearances, he added: “It’s not something that I’m looking to do. And I think it would be a very hard thing to do.”

The president’s comments come just days after “Trump 2028” hats and T-shirts
