UPDATE: Right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk has died after being shot while speaking at Utah Valley University.

President Donald Trump confirmed his death, announcing it on social media.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

A spokesperson for Kirk also confirmed his death to The New York Times.

Right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk was shot at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. He is reportedly in critical condition.

Footage of the incident circulating online appears to show Kirk shot near his neck and bleeding profusely. Police do not have a suspect in custody, the university says.

A spokesperson for the university confirmed to HuffPost that shots were fired. The incident occurred roughly 20 minutes after Kirk began speaking.
