While many of us might think of longevity when we imagine happy ageing, the American Heart Association explained that our “healthspan” might be just as important.

This, Dr Corey Rovzarn from the Stanford Prevention Research Centre said, “means living better, not just longer.” It refers to the number of years someone lives without a disease that negatively affects their quality of life.

In 2023, Age UK found that almost 74% of those aged 65-74 and 86% of people aged over 85 lived with at least one long-term health condition.
