The Met Office has issued yellow snow and ice warnings across the UK until this Thursday, 21 November.

Parts of Scotland and northern England are affected, with an upcoming cold snap expected to end the unusually balmy weather we’ve experienced so far this month.

But what does a yellow snow and ice warning mean, and what should you do if you’re affected by one?

What does a yellow weather warning mean?

The Met Office issues yellow, amber, and red weather warnings through the National Severe Weather Warning Service when it looks like more extreme conditions might affect people’s day-to-day lives.

The colours relate to a combination of the weather spell’s severity and its likelihood to impact people. Yellow is the mildest warning level, then amber, with red being the most extreme.

That does not mean that all yellow weather warnings are the same however, the Met Office added.
