As the cold, damp weather settles in, you might want to start thinking about airing your home out more often to prevent mould.
That’s because condensation – a common cause behind the issue – happens when warm air, like the steam from a shower, meets a colder surface, like your morning window pane.
This is why German “stoßlüften”, or shock ventilation, can help to banish those pesky spores, especially in areas like the kitchen and bathroom.
But according to Sam Tamlyn, Managing Director at Shutter Store, this might be a bad idea.
Why might it not be wise to open your window after a shower?
Tamlyn says that keeping a pane ajar might accidentally interrupt the airflow of your bathroom’s fan.
