Cynthia Erivo has opened up about stepping in to protect Ariana Grande during a worrying moment on the red carpet.

The pair recently attended the Wicked For Good premiere in Singapore, and were walking the “yellow carpet” to promote the new movie musical when a man leapt over the barrier and grabbed Ariana, jumping up and down.

Ariana was visibly shocked while her co-star Cynthia immediately intervened to separate her from the man – a decision she has now described as “instinct” during an interview on the US’ Today show.

“I wasn’t really thinking, I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe,” the Oscar nominee said. “I’m sure he didn’t mean us harm but you never know with those things and I wanted to make sure she was OK. That was my first instinct.”
