AI skills are about more than a workplace technology

The UK Government recently announced Google will provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) training for 100,000 civil servants linked to government’s £187 million AI skills programme. This focus on workplace AI uptake in partnership with big tech firms leaves a glaring gap: people. People in the everyday, navigating a world of AI: not just as workers to be sold on use of new AI tools.

Earlier this moth, Connected by Data delivered an open letter to Keir Starmer, signed by 70 experts, academics, practitioners, and individuals. It urges the Prime Minister to refocus AI skill investments: offering independent AI literacy opportunities for all.
