Why self-publishing is the smart move for authors
For years, traditional publishing was considered the gold standard for authors. A book deal with a major publisher promised credibility, widespread distribution, and substantial marketing resources. But having navigated both the traditional publishing world and the independent route, I can confidently assert that self-publishing is increasingly the smarter, more rewarding path for many authors.
My journey began with my debut novel Gypsy Masala. Unable to secure a publisher’s interest, I took matters into my own hands. Creating a blonde alter ego, "Pru"’ I posed as my own publicist. Pru landed major reviews and even secured a slot on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. This unconventional approach resulted in a three-book deal with HarperCollins, a dream come true—or so I thought.
