Another year, another list of ousted MPs and faceless civil servants.

Friday saw the announcement of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Resignation List, that wonderful innovation which allows the nation’s outgoing chief executive to reward his friends and political allies with medals, knighthoods, and seats in the House of Lords.

This year’s beneficiaries include the esteemed Michael Gove MP, he of Aberdeen nightclub fame; ex-Scotland Secretary Alistair Jack, who bet on the date of the 2024 general election; and former chancellor Jeremy Hunt.
