Scottish airport flights win is another big moment in story some did not want to hear

The new China flights win is another big moment for Prestwick Airport as it continues its ascent, writes Business Editor Ian McConnell.

It would be difficult to overstate the importance of the airport, and this makes it all the more baffling that some people were for political reasons seemingly willing it to fail when it was encountering some relatively short-term troubles.

Prestwick Airport was described by its chief executive as “one of the United Kingdom’s leading cargo hubs” last week as yet another major business win was announced.

This seems like an entirely fair characterisation of the airport’s cargo prowess by Ian Forgie.

It is also a far cry from the negative story about Prestwick Airport which its detractors were so keen to try to tell in the wake of its rescue by the Scottish Government in 2013, when it was bought for £1 from Infratil of New Zealand.
