A crucial boost for Glasgow at such an important time

It was pleasing to hear so many positive comments about Glasgow from the UK boss of UNIQLO, which opened a store in the city yesterday, writes Ian McConnell.

It is surely the case that compliments about Glasgow from external perspectives are - to those with the city’s interests at heart - valuable at any time but particularly so right now.

So it was pleasing that the UK boss of UNIQLO had many positive things to say about Glasgow ahead of the Japanese fashion group opening its store in the city yesterday.

Of course, you would hardly have expected Alessandro Dudech to talk the city down, having chosen Glasgow as the location for UNIQLO’s second Scottish store.

Nevertheless, the enthusiasm of his comments was striking, and the positives he highlighted were thought-provoking. And they might well be useful for those looking to promote Glasgow to potential investors. Mr Dudech, who is UNIQLO’s UK chief operating officer, said in an interview with The Herald: “Glasgow’s cultural vibrancy, architectural heritage, and status as Scotland’s largest city make it a key location for us.

“Glasgow is a city with deep cultural roots and a dynamic spirit, and we’re proud to be part of its next chapter.”
