Address rising cancer cases
Kashmir, as our report on Saturday revealed, has reported 50,000 new cancer cases in the past seven years, a fact that should alarm us all. What is more, since 2021, there has been a steady rise in detection. Data from the Population-Based Cancer Registry (PbCR) at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) shows the increase in numbers from 6,649 cases in 2018 to a projected 9,400 cases by the end of 2024, with stomach cancer being the most common among males (19%), followed by lung cancer (16%).
