Avoidable Deaths On Rails
The death of 13 passengers of the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district is a grim indictment of systemic shortcomings. Panic spread among passengers after rumours of a fire, prompting them to jump off the train, only to be fatally struck by the speeding Karnataka Express on an adjacent track. Among the victims were nine men and four women, including seven reportedly from Nepal.
