Judges Need Security To Decide Cases Without Fear

Terrorism is among the gravest crimes against humanity. It has no religion, no ideology, and no justification that can excuse the deliberate targeting of innocent people. Those who plant bombs in crowded places or hospitals wage war not only against the state but also against ordinary citizens who have no role in any political or communal conflict. Seen against this backdrop, the Gujarat High Court’s decision to uphold the convictions in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case on Tuesday deserves appreciation. The court merely confirmed the verdict delivered by the special trial court in 2022, but the significance of the judgment is immense.
