FAITH PERSPECTIVES: 'Awesome' to realize God's love
As I go through this month’s readings I was reminded of being in awe and being children of God. I am in awe [fear of the Lord in a good way] to realize that God loves and cares for us. He takes us back when we mess up. I know, awesome right?
I guess that’s also the idea of grace, that God loves us in spite of ourselves. I am in awe when I think that we are all God’s kids! I like Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel’s version of awe. He says, “Awe precedes faith, it is the root of faith. We must be guided by awe to be worthy of faith.” Cool the way he ties awe into faith. I hadn’t thought of it that way........
