SIMPLE STUFF: Not throwing my hat into the ring

I will not be seeking the Wayne County Republican Committee endorsement to run for the 130th District Assembly seat.

Yes, much to the surprise of some, I am an enrolled Republican. I harken back to the days when Bob Oaks held the seat. I worked for him for eight years as his communications coordinator until he retired at the end of 2018. He was, and remains, one of the most ethical, fair-minded people I’ve known in my careers as a journalist and in state government.

We did not agree on everything, but that was all right. His positions were never radical, and I never had an issue being part of his staff. He taught me a lot.

I have always loved politics and I am a squeaky wheel. So when Brian Manktelow, whom I also worked for briefly, announced that he was retiring, I thought — for about five seconds — that it might be interesting to run myself. Then I remembered: The process of GOP caucus nominations is less........
