As heat waves, forest fires and other weather-related extremes sweep across the planet — allegedly caused by carbon-emitting fossil fuels — the global consumption of oil and gas continues to rise. Temperatures may hit 40 C in Europe and North America, but there is a conspicuous lack of action to aggressively reduce fossil fuel consumption.
