Achbarou Women’s Cooperative Celebrates One Year Of Empowerment, Craft, And Cultural Exchange – OpEd
The Achbarou Women’s Cooperative celebrates its one-year anniversary, marking a year of transformative impact in women’s empowerment, cultural preservation, and community tourism in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains.
Founded through the participatory empowerment approach of the High Atlas Foundation (HAF), the cooperative’s 22 members have transformed traditional rug weaving into a source of income, confidence, and leadership, producing 1080 unique rugs since opening. These efforts reflect a broader movement across Morocco, where women are gaining financial independence and agency through their own community-led initiatives.
