Edmonton and region have long played a critical role in ensuring housing supply keeps pace with growth. Last year alone, Alberta recorded more than 50,000 housing starts, including more than 21,000 in the Edmonton region. As more people choose to live here, the question is not whether Edmonton will grow — it is how, and where people will live.

Edmonton’s long-term growth strategy, The City Plan, calls for half of all future housing to be built within redeveloping areas. Achieving that goal depends on infill — development that uses existing infrastructure, supports more compact communities, and expands housing choice.
