Wood with nails sticking out, a rug, sofa cushions, a duvet and several stuffed black bin bags were fly-tipped to the side of a path in Chedgrave leading to a church and a children's playground.

Kay Mason Billig, councillor for Loddon and Chedgrave and leader of Norfolk County Council, slammed the illegal dumping.

She said: "Some people are disgusting. Why do people do this? It's free to dispose this type of waste at the Burgh Apton tip.

"Come on people, let's keep our lovely village clean and tidy for all to enjoy."

Ms Mason Billig confirmed the incident has been reported to South Norfolk Council and said anyone identified will be prosecuted.

The dumped items have since been cleared from the footpath, which links Hardley Road to the children's playground known as the Pits and to All Saints Church.

A spokeswoman for Chedgrave Parish Council said: "We were happy that the matter was dealt with very quickly."
