Drainage issues flagged at proposed Lidl site
Surveyors discovered the problem after concerns from Suffolk County Council over flooding and drainage prompted an investigation at the land off Norwich Road in Halesworth.
The survey reveals the underground culvert is badly damaged, misaligned, and in one section completely collapsed.
Documents said: "It is clear that the existing culvert is in an extremely poor state of repair and is currently not functioning as intended,

"The proposed diversion of this network as part of the wider scheme is critical to maintaining the functionality of the culvert."
Contractors also found large amounts of roots are clogging the pipe and parts are squashed from above making a full inspection impossible.
Previously Suffolk County Council as the lead local flood authority had issued a holding objection to the bid, requiring 13 points of action including providing various flood plans, a walkover survey and details of proposed watercourse diversion.
As the existing drainage system is unsuitable, Lidl has revised certain elements of the plans, including further details of the proposed diversion.
