Victim’s anger as court blunder sees domestic abuse case dropped

Prosecutors have admitted that a mix-up over vital video evidence meant the case against Alan Taylor had to be dropped on the day of his trial.

The former businessman and newspaper boss, who is well known in King’s Lynn as a pillar of the community, had denied subjecting Jade Sarsfield to controlling behaviour between January 2020 and October 2023.

But the case against him was never heard in court after the prosecution were forced to offer no evidence at the last minute.

The Crown Prosecution Service said “unacceptable failings” meant it was unable to use her “extremely impactful” two-hour video testimony because it had not been shared with Mr Taylor’s defence team.
