This wind power town is the hub of US’s biggest offshore wind farm

Delegates were in Virginia Beach on the east coast for the International Partnering Forum run by the Oceantic Network to discuss the future of offshore wind energy in the United States.

The site was just 30 miles from the US’s largest offshore wind project due to be completed next year - where East Anglian wind power know-how is playing its part.

One of the wind turbine monopiles off Virginia Beach (Image: Charles Macdowell) Dominion Energy’s 2.6 GW 176-turbine wind farm, known as CVOW (Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind), is among a handful untouched by President Donald Trump’s halt orders.

Alongside two pilot turbines operational since 2020 70 monopiles are in place and the first of four substations.

Businesses from the East of England are among several UK companies basing their US operations in Virginia Beach.
