Town's 220-year-old printer set to close after loss of 'significant contract'

The CPI Group has revealed a proposal to shut down the Beccles-based book printer CPI William Clowes by the end of March next year.

This would see the loss of 50 employees who currently work at the site in Copland Way, Ellough.

It comes after three other firms pulled out of the town in the last few weeks.

Tanya Dunbar, the CPI UK managing director, has said this decision was made with "huge regret" but the business is "no longer sustainable".

She added the company has been in a loss-making position for the last few years and it will be losing a significant contract that represents around 25pc of its turnover in December.
