Major planned chicken farm could help meet rising poultry meat demand, say farmers
John Whyte and Andrew Kendell, of BKW, put forward an early proposal for three poultry-rearing sheds on land off Copland Way in Ellough, near Beccles, last month.
This includes three 25mx122m buildings to house 138,000 chickens.
Some local concerns have been raised including the risk of ammonia pollution and a worsening "stench" in the area, as well as for the welfare of birds “crammed together”.
But Mr Kendell said health and welfare standards would be high, and the idea was put forward in response to growing demand for one of the most affordable sources of protein.
