Church reveals plans to rescue 'crumbling' 200-year old tomb
The medieval Holy Trinity Church in Barsham, near Beccles, is well known for its connection with Admiral Lord Nelson, whose maternal grandfather was the Rector of Barsham from 1714 to 1730.
However, another association of the church is with the Rede family, which was one of the most prominent families in Beccles for more than 400 years.
Robert Rede, a lawyer who built Ashman's Hall in the early 19th century, and his wife are buried under an altar tomb near the lychgate in the churchyard with the names of other family members later added.
