Prison officer attacked by inmate says it took her six months to recover

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, was leaving HMP Norwich after a shift at the Knox Road jail when she was ambushed by former inmate Sam Morrison.

Morrison, who armed himself with a bottle of Stella Artois, had been loitering outside Norwich Prison when the officer left work.

He pulled open her car door and repeatedly punched and struck her, leaving her with fractures to her eye socket, jaw and cheek bone.

The attack, which happened at about 5.30pm on November 30 last year, was only brought to an end after another prison officer intervened when he saw what had happened.

Morrison, who carried out the attack a couple of months after being released from Norwich Prison, had tried to suggest the reason for the attack was she had laughed at him.

But the officer, who insists she never laughed at Morrison as he claimed, said he had altered his story to serve his own interests and "minimise the consequences of his actions".
