Nathan Pitchford, 46, and Mark Sutton, 52, were in the Mini Cooper when police used the spiked strip to stop it on Woodcock Road in Norwich, three hours after the car had been stolen in Shotesham All Saints.

Norwich Crown Court heard the owner had called police after being alerted to the burglary when her dog - which ran out of the property - started barking.

Chris Youell, prosecuting, said the victim discovered raiders had used bolt cutters to force their way into her home and had stolen her handbag and car keys.

The owner had been alerted that something was amiss when her dog started........
