Snow and ice could be seen on car windscreens and bonnets in parts of the county as people set off on the work or school run commute early on Thursday.

The wintry remnants remained on vehicles as morning broke with the chilly temperatures nudging to just 1C.

It came as the East of England was issued with a yellow cold health alert, which will remain in place until 8am on Friday.

It means that a sharp temperature drop is likely to have an adverse impact on people's health.
