Row breaks out over 'morality' of selling homes likely to be lost to the sea

Three properties currently being sold for as little as £30,000 offer unimpeded views and direct access onto the golden sands of one of the UK's best beaches, where the waves lap just metres from their doors.

But there is a catch...

The three properties in question are on the Marrams, the Hemsby road which has already lost more than 20 homes to the sea in the last 15 years.

Experts say the bungalows are likely to suffer the same fate in the coming years and the sales have sparked a fierce row.

A senior council officer has criticised the sales and said the estate agents - who do not mention the erosion risks in adverts for the properties - and questioned the "morality" of the estate agents involved in the sale.

Some locals have also accused the estate agents of "mis-selling" homes which are expected to fall into the sea.

But the estate agents have hit back, saying the sales offer owners a chance to make money on their properties before they lose them, and that prospective buyers will be aware of the risks involved.

They say many people may be interested in buying the properties as holiday homes for a relatively short period of time, rather than as long-term investments, and point out that sales have almost been completed for two of the bungalows.

They also criticised the council for not doing more to protect the village from erosion.
