Landlord says council 'falsely accused him of trafficking Albanian immigrants'

Carmine Salamone has lodged a formal complaint with West Norfolk Council over their handling of his case, which resulted in him being fined a total of £13,850.

The 59-year-old, who has been a landlord for more than 30 years, has also appealed to the Upper Tribunal to have his conviction reviewed, fearing the "unsubstantiated" allegations by the council prejudiced his case.

Mr Salamone, who has lived in the UK since 1981 after moving from Italy at the age of 14, was convicted last year at King's Lynn Magistrate's Court for letting rooms for people to sleep in at two properties in breach of House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) rules.

This relates to allowing tenants to sleep in a room accessed off the kitchen, which is considered a hazard.
