Just ONE of Norfolk's four Labour MPs prepared to give Starmer their full backing

Alice Macdonald, MP for Norwich North has stood by the Labour leader amid growing calls for him to step down following months of disquiet within the party, stating he continues to have her "full support".

But it would appear she is an outlier among her Norfolk colleagues, reflecting the internal civil war that has erupted within the party in recent days.

Ms Macdonald's position is in stark contrast to Clive Lewis, who represents the city's southern constituency and is one of the leading voices openly calling for Sir Keir to stand down.

He has instead backed Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham as a future leader and called for his return to parliament.

But of greater concern to Sir Keir will be the less than resounding support offered by two MPs elected for the first time last year as part of the prime minister's landslide.

Terry Jermy, who defeated Liz Truss in South West Norfolk, stopped short of calling for the PM to step down but said that his backing was "not unconditional".

Meanwhile, Ben Goldsborough, MP for South Norfolk, declined the opportunity to publicly support his leader.

All Norfolk's Labour MPs were contacted by this newspaper for a straw poll on their attitudes to the party's leadership amid frenzied speculation in the lead-up to what is expected to be a tumultuous budget next week.
