West Norfolk Council members are likely to approve the significant increase later this month, after cabinet members recommended it goes ahead this week.

Under the plans the basic allowance would rise from £7,518 to £9,360, while extra pay for leader Alistair Beales would go up by £8,428, from £19,653 to £28,081.

Cabinet members will receive a £12,636 allowance and the chairman of committees will also get a pay rise.
