Allotment owners warn of 'pitchforks at dawn' if land is sold for housing
Critics have warned allotment land could be in peril after it emerged housing minister Angela Rayner's office had approved eight allotment sales since the general election.
Under the Allotment Act 1925, councils must get permission from Westminster for any disposal to go ahead.

Jeremy Corbyn, former Labour leader and colleague of Ms Rayner, warned that sales made "the future of these precious spaces even more perilous".
It prompted calls from campaigners for any further sell-offs to be scrapped and a petition has been launched, urging Ms Rayner to "keep her hands off our allotments". Allotmens in Wymondham, where people have been evicted by land owner Anglian Water (Image: Denise Bradley)
Currently, allotments in Norfolk appear to be safe from being sold off for housing.
