Teenager accused of rape while studying at college

Rion Elmstrom, 18, has been charged with two counts of raping a woman aged 16 years or over when he was a student at Lowestoft Sixth Form College between October 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024.

Appearing at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court, he was also charged with engaging in behaviour which was controlling or coercive between September 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024.

He is yet to give a plea.

Sarah Daws, prosecuting, said Elmstrom is currently on conditional bail.

Elmstrom, of Peterhouse Avenue in Gorleston, is no longer a student at Lowestoft Sixth Form College.

Lisa Dade, defending, said: "These matters go back to over two and a half years.

"There has been no breaches of bail."

The magistrates declined to proceed with the case given the severity of the allegations.

Elmstrom will next appear at Ipswich Crown Court on April 8 at 9.30am.

He has been granted conditional bail, under the same conditions previously imposed on him.

He must not contact the alleged victim and must not go within 100m of the alleged victim's address.
