HM Coastguard Gorleston discovered bullet encased in rock, shells and mineral deposits on a beach in Great Yarmouth.

After finding it, the beach area to the south of the town was cordoned off before a team came to dispose of it.

A Facebook post from HM Coastguard Gorleston said: "We were alerted to suspected ordnance on the beach at Great Yarmouth.

"The team cordoned the area, gently persuaded a curious seal to move further down the beach and waited for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.

"On their arrival, the item was identified as a live 50 cal bullet."

The coastguard team said that the bullet was difficult to spot as it was encrusted with rock, shells and mineral deposits from the beach.

It said the bullet still had the "potential to harm" and needed to be dealt with.

A seal was in the vicinity of the bullet and was guided back down the beach.

The incident happened on Sunday.

If you see anything suspicious on the beach, the team says to call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
