Homeless man admits stealing garden hoses from supermarket
Dennis Ward, 62, admitted stealing food and drink worth about £200 and six garden hoses worth £240 from the Morrisons supermarket in Lowestoft.
Appearing at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to the theft which took place on June 4, 2025.

Jacqueline Hanlon, prosecuting, said: "The defendant went to Morrisons in the afternoon and was seen by a security guard with a number of garden hoses.
"She also saw him take some food and drink.
"He said it was unplanned and stole the hoses to sell the items on because he was in financial hardship.
"He sold the items to unknown people and says he spent that money on food and clothing for his family."

The court heard Ward attended an interview on November 4 and admitted that it was him on the CCTV footage.
Anne Baker, defending, said: "He did steal six hoses and sold them for £10 each to buy food and drink.
"This man is of limited financial means. He is homeless. His benefits are going to stop and he no longer has a phone."

He has been granted conditional discharge for a period of six months and must pay £60 in compensation.
He must also pay a victim surcharge of £26.
