Brenda Chapman, a 92-year-old retired factory worker, was initially taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital (N&N) with stomach pain after eating and nausea in November 2023.

An inquest at Norfolk Coroner's Court this week heard the widower was given an abdominal x-ray. Three days later, on November 15, she was admitted onto a virtual ward and received daily monitoring from her home for six days.

Mrs Chapman, who lived in an upper floor flat in Sussex Street, Norwich, was then discharged from the virtual ward on November 21.

In the early hours of November 22, she was readmitted to the Dunston ward at the N&N, suffering from increased abdominal pain and vomiting.
