Tattoo artist found dead by maintenance worker in Norwich guest house

Matthew Bargery, known as Matt, was discovered in a basement studio flat on St Philip’s Road on January 16.

Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard the 42-year-old died by suicide following a long struggle with his mental health.

Mr Bargery, who was born on June 28, 1983, had no significant physical health problems but sought help from his GP in 2025 as his mental health declined.

Records from the Castle Partnership show he first attended on May 29 with mood fluctuations and concerns he may be suffering from depression or ADHD.

The consultation followed the breakdown of a relationship.

Mr Bargery, who was seeing his young son weekly, told doctors he felt people would be better off without him, although he had no active plans to end his life.

He agreed to start antidepressants, and follow-up appointments showed some improvement, although his anxiety remained high.

By July he planned to stop taking the medication and........
