The people of Cromer have had their say after a referendum was called when Cromer Town Council sparked anger with a proposed rise of 49pc in its share of council tax precept.

The proposed rise prompted people to ask questions about the council's finances, with many calling into question the future of its Grade II listed headquarters at North Lodge.

Plans to spend £260,000 on accessibility works, and the running and maintenance costs of the building were at the heart of the debate.

The row led to a parish poll being held on Thursday, in which 850 people voted on four questions.

The first question asked should the town council limit its council tax precept rise to no more than 10pc.
