Thetford Town Council will take ownership of 10 public car parks from Breckland Council following a consultation where locals opted for the possibility of tax hikes over the introduction of car parking charges.

The decision means the town follows Attleborough as the second council to officially accept an offer from Breckland it came to the five councils in the district with a series of proposals.

The proposed transfer models ranged from a freehold handover at no cost with restrictions on charging, to a full purchase at market value.
