Dramatic surge in beach rescues leads to lifeboat warning to visitors
Wells-next-the Sea RNLI says rescues at the popular spot have risen sharply in 2025, and is urging greater awareness of the dangers posed by the incoming tide.
By June, Wells had already seen more call outs than during the whole of 2024.
And its beach already had more lifeguard callouts each year than all other beaches in North Norfolk combined.

RNLI officials in the town said hundreds of people had been caught in tidal cut-offs, with some parents forced to hold their children above their heads as they waited for help.
Mandy Humphreys, water safety officer at Wells RNLI, said: “People don’t realise the dangers of the water, it has no respect for you."
