Developer fails in bid to slash the number of affordable homes on new housing estate
Persimmon Homes - which is developing a sprawling 780-home estate in Hellesdon - had attempted to reduce the number of low-cost homes by 84pc, blaming rising costs and flood risks.

But a Broadland Council meeting on Wednesday saw councillors overlook the recommendation of their own officials and vote against the proposal.
Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou, who chaired the meeting, said the adjustment was "in direct conflict with wider planning framework".

"These expectations were clearly established," she said.
"These were not new or unforeseen challenges - they are part of the risks of development.
"If we allow developers to dilute these........
