Emme Hadfield, 16, said she was challenged by her headteacher and approached with caution by staff members when she arrived for the early stages of the Alderman Peel High School prom on Friday.

She had turned up to the Fakenham Racecourse venue to join the party mood despite being banned for excessive absences.

The school in Wells imposed the ban a week before the prom, refunding her ticket without warning despite her claims that the absences were on medical grounds.

Alderman Peel High School says it categorically refutes Emme's claims that teachers were banned from talking to her.
