Decision over huge Norwich housing development delayed again

A verdict was expected to be made on the redevelopment of the Pinebanks site in Thorpe St Andrew at a Broadland Council meeting on Wednesday.

However the fate of the proposed 550 home development, first put forward in 2013, remains in the balance after councillors decided to visit the site they describe as "complex".

The proposals cover not just the former Pinebanks sports and social club site, but three other surrounding areas: Langley North, Langley South and Griffin Lane.

The sites are all located in already busy residential neighbourhood, raising questions about how the new properties can be accommodated.

The largest of the sites is Pinebanks itself, which once housed a sports and social club for Norwich Union staff.

The club has been derelict since the club closed in 2008 and was gutted in a blaze in 2014.
