Chef sold his Norfolk restaurant to buy AK-47s for terror plot, court told

Walid Saadaoui is accused of using money raised by the sale of the Albatross, in Great Yarmouth, to buy four AK-47 assault rifles, two handguns and 1,200 rounds of ammunition.

The Tunisian national, who ran the Italian restaurant just off the Norfolk town's Golden Mile from 2018 to 2023, is on trial at Preston Crown Court charged with preparing acts of terrorism.

The 38-year-old is said to have wanted to cause "untold harm" and kill as many Jewish people as he could by targeting a gathering in Manchester.

The married father-of-two arrived in the UK in 2012 and bought the Yarmouth restaurant using a loan from the bank.

His trial, which began last month, has been told that towards the end of 2022, Saadaoui began posting material on Facebook supporting ISIS, using a series of 10 different accounts.........
