Another village fireworks display scrapped over 'onerous' anti-terror law
The fireworks display in Swanton Morley - one of the most popular in the county - will not go ahead this year, with organisers blaming increasingly onerous measures required by so-called Martyn's Law.
The legislation - named after Martyn Hett, one of the 22 people killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing - places extra requirements on organisers of events of more than 800 people to take steps to protect them against the threat of terrorism.

Critics have raised fears the well-intentioned law may have a stifling effect on community events by placing unrealistic demands on organisers who will simply decide to give up.

The law has already been blamed for the decision to cancel another major Norfolk fireworks display this year, at Blakeney, and the Swanton Morley decision will further fuel those fears.
The event, which takes place at Swanton Morley Village Hall, is organised by the Friends of All Saints Church and raises money for village organisations.

It has been held for years and describes itself as "probably the best village display in Norfolk", with hundreds of visitors drawn from the surrounding........
