The girl - believed to be around three years old - is understood to have fallen through an open and unattended manhole at the Holkham Hall estate on Monday afternoon.

Holkham Hall has confirmed it has launched an investigation and is in contact with the family.

According to a witness, her brother - aged around five - raised the alarm and was seen screaming and crying "inconsolably".

The holidaymaker, who was visiting from Lincoln, recalled how a crowd of around 10 to 20 people formed around the hole to try and pull her out.
