Here is a list of some of the events happening in the county to make the most of the bank holiday.

The bank holiday weekend is scheduled to see a line-up of industrial engines, including Ashington No 5, which pulled some of the first trains when the line was saved for preservation.

Hunslet “Austerity” locomotive No 18 is also scheduled to be in action – the engine was a regular performer on the line in the 1980s and 1990s and has recently returned for a further spell.

Hunslet 1589 “Newstead”, which has returned to service this year after more than 50 years out of action, will also be entertaining the crowds.
